... Slippery travel late this afternoon and early evening...

Rain and sleet late this afternoon will change over to snow
through 7 PM across much of Massachusetts, Rhode Island and
Connecticut. The exception may be along the South Coast where
precipitation type may mainly be in the form of rain and then
sleet. For much of Connecticut, Rhode Island and eastern
Massachusetts including the cities of Hartford, Providence and
Boston, despite rain and sleet changing over to snow between 4 PM
and 6 PM, surface temperatures will likely remain just above
freezing, resulting in wet roads.

However across the high terrain of western-central Massachusetts,
essentially west of i495 temperatures will fall below freezing
resulting in snow covered roads with snow accumulations ranging
from a coating up to two inches. This includes the cities and
towns of Charlemont, Greenfield, Orange, Barre, Fitchburg,
Chesterfield, Blandford, Amherst, Northampton, Milford, Worcester,
and Ayer. A few locations along the Massachusetts, New Hampshire
and Vermont border may approach 3 inches of snowfall. Nonetheless
expect slippery travel through 7 PM in this region especially on
secondary roads and untreated surfaces.

Conditions improve early this evening as precipitation ends
between 6 PM and 9 PM from west to east. However with
temperatures falling below freezing overnight across most of the
area expect any standing water or slush to freeze. Thus icy spots
are possible overnight especially any untreated surfaces.

... Slippery travel late this afternoon and early evening...

Spotty light rain across western and central Massachusetts this
morning will become steadier and more widespread early this
afternoon and will then change to snow and sleet between 2 PM and
4 PM. With temperatures above freezing roads will initially be
wet.

However after 3 PM temperatures will begin to fall below freezing
across the high terrain of western-central Massachusetts,
essentially west of i495. This includes the cities and towns of
Charlemont, Greenfield, Orange, Barre, Fitchburg, Chesterfield,
Blandford, Amherst, Northampton, Milford, Worcester, and Ayer.
Snow and sleet will then begin to accumulate on paved surfaces
especially secondary roads and untreated surfaces becoming snow
covered with accumulations ranging from a coating to two inches.
This will result in slippery travel. Conditions improve early this
evening as precipitation ends between 5 PM and 8 PM. However with
temperatures remaining below freezing overnight any standing water
or slushy will freeze.

As for the greater Hartford, Providence to Boston corridor, rain
early this afternoon will briefly change to a period of snow and
sleet before ending between 5 PM to 8 PM from west to east.
However with temperatures remaining above freezing throughout the
day and early evening, roadways will remain just wet.
